Simple Life and The Value of Equality

It is not every day that you wake up to a refreshingly different news. So, when you read one such news, you feel that your day is made! Today morning, as I was going through Inshorts, I came across a news about Kanta Prasad and his wife Badami Devi, the owners of Baba ka Dhaba, where food is served with love. The octogenarian, Mr. Prasad said in an interview to Humans of Bombay, “There’s no ‘aadmi ka kaam’ or ‘aurat ka kaam’; 50-50 partners hain hum!” (There is no man’s work or woman’s work. We are 50-50 partners). An universal truth spoken in such simple words! Amazing! This husband wife duo is giving serious couple goals and breaking social stereotypes too.

Mr. Prasad’s words are a reminder to the fact that marriage is a lifelong partnership with your equal. Yet, we still struggle to prove this point to the society at large; though situations are changing nowadays for the better, yet we have a long way to go. Wish we can bridge the gap soon!

A happy family is the one that stands together through thick and thin, has mutual love and respect, and believes in equal partnership. You are pronounced a couple through some customs and rituals but it is by staying strong together that you evolve as a couple and truly honor your marriage vows. No one can define chores to a particular gender on the basis of stereotypes. Moreover, a family that believes in equality can bring up their children in gender neutral way as well, which is of utmost importance today.
